The conference opened with the latest system updates from ISCC PLUS, followed by engaging discussions on practical applications and real-world experiences from system users. Among the key sessions was our presentation, "Embracing ISCC PLUS Certified Plastics: A Step Toward a Sustainable Future," delivered by Mr. Yasuo Ohama, Manager of the Marketing and Planning Division at Kikkoman Biochemifa Company.

Pioneering Sustainability Through Certified Biomass Plastics

Our deep-rooted expertise in biotechnology, cultivated through soy sauce production, has led to groundbreaking advancements in the biochemical field. One of the company’s key innovations is the LuciPac series, which leverages firefly-derived luciferase for ATP Testing. Recognizing the importance of certified material choices, adopted the mass balance approach to source 100% biomass-based polypropylene to produce LuciPac’s plastic components. This ensures the same high-quality performance while significantly reducing environmental impact.

Collaboration for a Greener Future

Working in partnership with ITOCHU Corporation, we ensured that biomass polypropylene, produced through the mass balance method, maintains the same material integrity as conventional petroleum-derived plastics. This shift aligns with Kikkoman Group’s long-standing environmental principles and reflects our proactive approach to climate change and resource efficiency. Furthermore, by fully embracing ISCC PLUS certification, Kikkoman Biochemifa Company is setting a new industry benchmark, reinforcing the importance of transparency, traceability, and sustainable material innovation in the food safety and hygiene industry. Our journey with ISCC PLUS certified plastics is a testament to how businesses can integrate biotechnology, sustainability, and innovation to create tangible environmental impact while maintaining product excellence. We look forward to continuing our efforts toward a more sustainable future.
